Grown Folk Shit Presents Mayer Hawthorne
June 30, 2009 10:59:52 | Posted by Profile | Category: Events Mayer Hawthorne is one of the illest cats coming out of the Stones Throw Records camp right now. Hailing from Ann Arbor, MI, this multi instrumentalist / DJ wrote and produced his single “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out” as a joke and passed it to Peanut Butter Wolf who in turn offered him an album deal. Steeped in that Ol’ 60’s and 70’s soul vibe, Mayer Hawthorne adds his own twist and melds together a special blend of Doo Wop & Soul to create something that sounds vintage and progressive at the same time... Keep your ears open y’all, better yet head down to El Dorado Bar, Thursday July 23rd and watch him do his thing at Ikah Love’s Grown Folk Shit... It’s a win win situation...

The existence of an actual holiday named "Go Skateboarding Day", may seem strange. Never-the-less, we made sure to put on a fun event at San Diego's Memorial Skate Park. A big thanks to Vox, Sk8 Mafia, Pacific Drive, Street Machine, Sk858, and the guys at Typical Culture for the flicks. Remember kids, everyday is go skate day, it's Summer!
Our man Edwin Lewis in Costa Rica took part in Do Skateboarding Day down in his neck of the woods. Peep the flicks!
